Default Check Engine Light, is it the gas cap?

hi all, im new to this forum, and im hoping that this might be the issue, yesturday afternoon my check engine light appeared on my 1999 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro, the engine and transmission both run/shift smoothly, my oil/water/battery gauges are all at the normal running levels and i feel no change in the car, except that i have a check engine light. Could it be the gas cap? And can i get the code read at autozone or a parts store like that?

thanks!

Here's a list of codes. Not good to guess.

Get the code read at your local parts store if possible.

Or borrow a VAG.com and get a more definitive diagnosis.

Harbor freight has code readers for less than $50, if you can't afford to go to a mechanic for diagnosis that's a useful option.

you will need to pull codes, and search for causes! could be many things, most likely a vacuum leak or other emissions related item.

It's not a GM or Ford, it's most likely an actual issues that needs to be addressed.
