Default Check Engine Light on, if oil change needed?

Curious if a 2001 audi a4 2.8 turns on the check engine light if a oil change is needed? Should I be worried that its on?

Thanks

as long as it's not flashing don't worry about it.

Default Um... he should still check it out and see what the DTC is.

Flashing just means don't drive the car.

Default When the service is due, it'll show a message on the center computer screen, but...

it doesn't make the check engine light come on.

There could be many reasons why that light came on. Best would be to find someone with a VAG COM tool and read the error codes that are stored in the ECU.

could it be on becauase my car has been complaining that my headlight is burnt out for a couple days?

Any idea where I can buy a scanner for my car?

www.ross-tech.com or go to autozone, they may be able to scan some basic codes.

Default Headlight out won't cause the Check Engine Light to come on...

You can buy the VAG-COM diagnostic software/cable from Ross-Tech.

In the meantime, use the VAG Locator to find someone in your area who already has the tool and can help you out.
