Went to AutoZone today and they had trouble finding the place to check the codes once they did it wasn't. I have a 1998 a4 2.8Q so its behind the center console.
I just got subs and an amp mounted in the trunk so is it possible they ripped it out during installation? I'm not thinking thats it because pretty careless paid 550 for labor on it.. is there another way to check the codes directly from the engine?

the plug should be on the drivers side attached to the panel above your feet. it could have come loose but you should be able to find it and re-attach it to the correct spot on the panel.
