Have had check engine light come on 3 times in as many weeks. First time dealer diagnosed as air leak and suspected the idle control valve as the culprit, so replaced. Had experienced minor rough idle. One week later light came on again. No evidence of idle problems. This time same diagnosis by dealer, but said valve working fine so just reset the light. 3rd time 2 days ago. Car at idle with brake on when light came on. Rpms jumped to about 1200 then dropped to 400 and rough. Shut car off, and restarted within 5 minutes and everything fine since. Any ideas?

If it's not some thing simple like a loose gas cap, have your dealer put it on the VAG 1550, and check the Coolant Temp. Sensor.
