as ya can see in the pic behind the pass headlight there is a hole cutout that a wire runs through it (not sure whats the wire is used for). i was thinkin about running a tube through there for the use of a ram air for the intake.

Also, where do you live? water/snow suckage is a danger with low mounted intakes like that. Those risks are one reason I've kept the induction system stock on my car.

The most efficient version of this modification involves modding a brake duct to fit in the lower front grill and running a flexible pipe through "the maze" to the front side of the air box and connecting it to a velocity stack. It's a rather effective modification.
I used a more conservative method and fabricated sheet aluminum to fit under the upper grill to force the air into the OEM inlet duct. From there, over many months, I cut, trimmed, expanded, made air tight (except for the water drain at the bottom of the air box), and generally eliminated every restriction possible to the air box. While less effective than a big ol' 3" pipe and brake duct collector in the lower grill, my method still noticeably improved breathability.
From the lower grill, others have used 3" PVC pipe and other materials to get to the air box.
However, you need to talk to Mance Etheredge about the limits of further modification beyond the airbox. Upgrading to the larger 3" 12v ported MAF w/ Velocity stack caused some 30v owners problems.
Fortunately, you can definitely use one of Mance's "Stage 2" silicone kits for the 30v, as I have one on my wife's A6 30v, to smooth out the air disruption caused by the accordion tube.
Additionally, you can likely get a little better flow from porting out the air disruptions in your TB.

Click here for Mr. D's Ram-Air Mod
