Chip Question (not the standard GIAC vs APR)

I'm struggling to deal with the fact that a stock 99.5 1.8TQM is friggin slow if you dont do anything to it... Need to chip but my one issue is that I find the gears really short in this car... I mean especially in 1st and 2nd you hit redline in microseconds when you're really driving the car... Does the chip add to this problem... do the RPM's just fly up there way faster???
And Secondly... Does the added HP from a chip take away from winter traction?

very true....my major concern was how my stock a4 climbed in the rpms so quickly from 1s2 to second....but with the GIAC chip now and the rev limiter set to 7100....not only is it better but it feels like you have more time from 1st to second....the rpm needle climbs up quicker but you actually feel the power being chipped and it feels more normal than no power without chip and rpm climbing real fast between 1st and 2nd.....it is hard to explain but you will see that the 1st to 2nd feels better when chipped......regarding traction.....I have a FWD and I can modulate it well enough that I can get a real decent launch without spinning tires if I do not want to....with Q. I dont think it will be a concern at all.

While chipping does lift the redline, you'll find that the chipped programs for the most part will taper off boost beginning at 5000 rpms, and rapidly after 5500 rpms. The car doesn't really generate much power beyond that, so you'll want to shift somewhere *near* that point.
As far as winter traction...well, first and foremost, you should get appropriate winter tires. That will mostly determine how much grip you have. Second, you'll learn how much torque is too much in slippery conditions, and you can just shift to a higher gear to prevent wheelspin. Remember though...with quattro you'll have more *accelerating* traction than most other cars anyway. So I wouldn't worry about winter traction too much, as long as you have the appropriate tires.
