I am a one car individual and can not take the chance of not having the car to drive. Therefore, are there any chips which you can buy and do not have to send in your chip. That way you can buy and when it is delivered you just plug and drive

No, unless you live close to one of the tuners (TAP, Hoppen, Wetterauer, AutoThority, Garrett, AMS, etc.) or close to one of their distributors (I know TAP has regional distributors, not sure of the others), you'll have to FedEx your ECU off to them. This is due to the stock chip being soldered to the circuit board. Most tuners will de-solder (is that a word?) the stock chip and solder in their own chip or a socket which would accept a chip.<p>Andy Hedin<br>'97 A4 1.8Tqms, Wett 1.0 Bar, E-codes...

I highly recommend going the regional distributor route, check the TAP website for the location closest to you. If you're doing a stage one, your car will be offline for about 20 minutes while they plug in the new ECU and install the air filter. The other bonus when dealing with a distributor is that they'll also check your car for fault codes after the installation.<p>Andy
