The k03 comes online around 2500 rpms anyways - so as long as the shifts in the auto arent ridiculously slow, he could probably cut down his time a decent amount.

Technology is coming up where auto's will soon be better than any person in a manual so I'm just gonna wait... LOL I'M SOOO LAZY!
I feel that yeah a stick is more fun but the aggrevation of it in some normal driving conditions outweigh it's fun factor and I have stopped having "fun" altogether until premium get's back to below $2 a gal (I prob. is but I haven't bought gas ina week I LUV 28-29MPG YES I DO IT REALLY)

Plus, launching an auto is totally different then launching a stick. People talk about it in very casual, simple terms, but (at least for a rwd car) it still takes a lot of learning / practice.
Quarter mile racing is all about the 60ft. The rest of the time down the track is pretty much based on how much power your car puts down.

most races. There's no skill in that. Skill is when you take a car with lesser or equal power and beat somebody. To me, that's fun. Launching an auto is far easier than a manual, that's a fact.

I've driven all sticks up to this point. I picked up an auto for my current car b/c they are faster down the 1/4 mile then the sticks - and thats the type of racing I enjoy.
Being a position to compare my experiences with both, on and off the track, they both take an equal amount of practice and time at launching, TO DO IT RIGHT.
Stick launches: Get to the line, hold the correct rpm with clutch in, slip or dump the clutch depending on how you want to launch. How I would launch my a4 - hold 2500, and as the tree started to fall, build up the rpms to 4500 or so (buidling boost), go, and then row through the gears.
Auto launches: Get to the line, Hold one foot on brake with the left foot, one on gas with the right. Hold the correct rpm (maximum for your stall). Make sure you dont go above the designated rpm's or you sit there waiting for the light to turn green and spin your tires like an idiot. If you dont have a very high stall converter, sometimes holding the E brakes helps for a little higher hold of RPMs. As the tree falls, depress gas more and let off the brake and go. Too much and you sit in the hole and spin, too little and you bog - just like a stick.
Eaasier after the 60ft, yes. Before, well...
