Chipped ECU question.

I'm looking at buying a chipped ecu in the Classifieds. APR or Wett. Do I need to make sure the chipped ecu has the same part number as my stock ecu or is it OK if the chipped ecu came out of the same type A4 1.8T? IE: Non drive by wire, Quattro Manual.
Thanks for your input.

ie 97-99 M box ECU's will all work for any car in the range. 99.5 and other DBW need different ECU's. For the earlier set, you can code the ECU to the car - ie quattro vs fronttrak.
But, previous poster is correct - contact APR or other expert for more info

For the pre-DBW cars, you can mix P & M ECU's, but not N ECU. It does not have to be exactly the same specs. The chip tuner can re-program the ECU from FWD to Quattro, and from Auto to manual and vice versa.
The P, M and N letters are on the end of the part #.
