Chipped ECU recoding questions...
I'm trying to win a chipped ECU for MY 2000 on ebay. It's APR 1.0BAR Chipped. It's PN is 4B0 906 018 P (manual quattro) and I have 4B0 906 018 Q (auto quattro). I've been searching with mixed results. Can I recode the ECU with vag for an auto? The auction says I can, a few people said they have done it sucessfully, while others say you can't? So basically is it possible to recode from manual to tip on a MY 2000 ECU? Thanks guys..
Edit: From what I read 2000 is the only MY you cannot recode auto and manual! Is this true? That sucks I just placed a bid for $350 on it, and I cannot use it. Someone outbid me!

Ebay Chipped ECU

I DID RECODE MINE. I know some people say you can't but I have no idea why.
I seriously want to hear that from someone who has a REASON or who tried it or had APR/GIAC tell them DIRECTLY that it couldn't be done.
I did it to mine and the car performed flawlessly. It was a 2000 DBW ATW motor and Tip trans. I had a Q ECU stock and kept it stock.
I bought a "P" box APR chipped ECU that I bought off a fellow AW'er. It was delivered to me as a manual ecu. I then recoded it to a Tip. No issues, no troubles.
It was in the car when I sold it. And I gave him the stock one too that still worked fine.

Interesting... well I've been searching AW+AZ and they are saying the same thing...more
That you cannot recode the ECU with VAG, it won't take the settings. Do you remeber exactly how you did it? I can't find directions anywhere. Do you have AIM? I'm scared this ECU will not work for me, but I'm trying to do exactly what you did and you said it worked..same ECU and chip...uhh what to do! Thanks for the help.

I don't remember the soft code numbers but it was VERY simple.
Get into the ECU with Vag-Com and simply change the softcode #'s. It took it fine, no problems.
The guy I sold my car to may even have the APR ecu still??
He went to a K04 right after he bought it so......
He goes by VWUMO on here, but is hardly ever here. Look him up by name, get his email and email him?

Well, I'm just worried it's not going to work, and I'm out $365. I guess I can resell it..
I'm just confused on how yours worked fine and others swear it won't work. I hope it works! Thanks for your help.

Some 2000+ cannot be recoded.
I have been able to recode 3 different ECU's for my 99.5 but here is a ross-tech response:

https://forums.audiworld.com/vag/msgs/5399.phtml</a
