Chirping noise when idling...

When just sitting in my garage, I hear a chirping noise...sometimes. It sounds like a bird chirping and it is definitely coming from my car. I also hear it sometimes sitting/stopped in traffic with my windows down. Not loud, but annoying. The chirps are evenly spaced from each other which makes me think perhaps they are coming from something turning in the engine. But, if I step on the gas, they don't increase in frequency. And don't go away either. Transmission? Belt? Gremlins?
Any ideas?

most likely has to do with when a slipped belt gets rubs and heats up and melts in one spot of the flat side. Continues to slip at that spot. When the car heats up, parts expand and makes the belt a little tighter, less sound. Check your belts on both sides.
Could also be the power steering pump making those noises. Check your fluid.
