choppy idle problem
#2
Vacuum leak, bad spark plugs, weak coil pack(s), carbon build up in the cumbustion chambers, weak
ignition amplifier, pinholed or carbon tracked boots on the bottom of the Coil Pack(s). Try a TBA ?

mine too! exact same problem trying to figure out what's wrong(more)
does it no happen all the time, just occasionaly when idling? I think it might be the throttle position sensor gone bad in the TB but I gotta check first.

I just delt with this problem...
My friend who owns a shop had a customer car - 97 1.8T w/ 113k miles that had the same problem. He told me that they did not know what is wrong and "why don't you fix it for me - Mr. Audi..."
Anyway - There were a coupla DTCs for Throttle body issues. I simply cleaned the throttle body which had heavy deposits - The butterfly valve could not even close all the way.
Well - they laughed at me for thinking it only needed to be cleaned, but that fixed the problem. BTW - but I did an adaptation when I was done and replaced the vacum lines - the OEM ones seem to fall apart after a few years.
