Default Christian - FL (or others who have had tinting done & have removed rear deck B4).

I was wondering if tinting companies have to remove that rear deck to tint the back window. I'm asking because when I removed it the other day to install my 3rd brake light sticker :-), there were a few tricks, and places where it's real easy to screw up and break the wiring harness or snap fittings IMO.

Wanted to know is it safe to assume that tinters can take it all apart without breaking anything, or should i to be safe remove the deck myself and give the car to them?

Default I've had so many A4s tinted.....

And my guy always removes the 3rd brake light shoud, and tints the whole window just fine without removing the rear deck. But, my tint guy in Orlando is the best, and you may have to be careful if you take it to other tint places. I would remove the rear deck for them just in case if you are in doubt of the tint person's skill level.

Default How do you remove the 3rd brake light shroud w/o removing the deck?

got me baffled.

Default It doesn't come off without a fight....

You press in on both sides near the bottom of the shroud hard, and try and pull back at the same time. That's the way it works, but it will be on there very tight, so don't give up easy. But not as hard as getting a bra off a woman...I hate those darn hooks.

Default No, I am talking about the shroud, not the whole brake light assembly.

If you remove the shroud, you will then have just the lense and bulb holder, which are still screwed into the deck.

Default Hmm... I took out the actual lens + assembly, and it slid out of the shroud. There's a clip...

of some sort, and you slide it out. I might as well for safety take out the whole deck to make it real easy for him to put the tint on.

BTW, did you get a one piece rear window tint? What's common? I know someone who had it as two pieces, but said she couldn't notice the line.

Actually, then I've become quite good at the second one... One handed even!
