Cigarette lighter fuse keeps blowing!

Cigarette lighter fuse keeps blowing!
Can anybody tell me why my damn cigarette lighter fuse keeps blowing? I don't smoke and I've never used the damn thing. Oh yeah, I'm new to this site and I found the DYI section very usefull when I changed the valve cover gasket on my car. Thanks.

Possible causes could be:
Wrong fuses (should be 15A I think)
Defective lighter (shorted coil or not breaking circuit when hot)
Short circuit in wiring between fuse and lighter.
Does the fuse blow only when there is the lighter in the socket? That would imply the lighter is where the problem lies.

I put the right fuse in it and it still pops. It doesn't matter if the lighter is in the socket or not. I guess I'll pry that thing out and see if there's something going on. Thanks for the input though.

yep, look inside for coins. the last car i bought the owner said the lighter hasn't worked for a few years, and I needed it for my garmin to get home, I looked side and found a penny, the guy freaked, couldn't believe he went for so long for a penny!
