Default Clicking problem in 2000 1.8T

Hey guys I am new to the site and I was hoping you could help me out. I have recently started hearing this very odd clicking noise from my car. When I shift from 1st gear to 2nd I hear this kind of clattering/clicking noise. If I shift very smoothly though, it is very faint and I can barely hear it. And also when I step on the gas hard it makes another click or two. I have never noticed it happen when the engine is cold. It only seems to do it when I have been driving for a bit. It is very odd because it does not have a problem shifting, it just makes the noise when it goes into the gear. It only seems to do it in 2nd gear. Any ideas what this could be?

Default Search the archives a bit and you'll find your answer. Valve clatter...

Probably anyway, common with old/thin oil.

I don't see how it could be from old/thin oil though. I have always put good oil in the car and I change it every 3k.

Default Owned since new? [more]

Also, do you heat up the car properly before driving hard (ie. above 3k rpm)? If not, I heard you will get some clicking. My 12v clicks, and that is the best explanation I heard of.

As long as it only does it when it is cold, it is not loud, there is no CEL, and the car does not lose power... I think it is okay. Otherwise, take it to a really good mechanic and see what he/she says, most likley they will just tell you it's something internal and best left alone.

Good luck.

The car makes the noise after it has warmed up, and I always am very good about letting my car warm up. I never drive my car very hard anyways.
