I have a clicking / ticking sounds at startup that is pretty loud. And it sticks with the car throughout acceleration. The only thing I can think of is a cracked belt that I need to get replaced (power steering belt). Just posting to see if anyone here has had the same probs or just have an idea what it may be. THanks all.

and it turned out that it was a crack in the exhaust manifold.

In my case it was a noise that occurred only under moderate acceleration shortly after startup (within 5 minutes), and it was most noticable in warm weather. The noise was never noticable at idle.

I was convinced that it was valve noise, but once the manifold was replaced (just last week) the noise has not been noticed at all.

The theory was that it made this noise because exhaust gasses (sp?) were leaking out of the crack when the engine was cold, but as the manifold heated up, the crack closed, and the noise went away...
