Don't worry. It's just the valves. They're audible when car and oil are cold.

Default I got it too...

the dealership replaced my lifters to get rid of it and changed the oil, it went away for a while and it just came back. I believe both times it has been cold out and I drove my car har.

I was on el camino and a Z3 stepped up, It was a real good race. I would pull in the higher RPM, he did take me a little off the line. But now I got that ****|n ticking noise again.

Default I just talked to my service tech about this same problem last week and.....

he wants me to bring my car in sometime in the next couple of weeks and leave it overnight so they can start it cold in the morning and examine the problem. I'll keep the forum updated.

Default i think theyre called the tappets, the point of contact between the cams and the valves

they have bigger clearance when cold

Don't worry about it. The 1.8T engine is like a big cycle engine and they make all kinds of mechanical noise, especially when cold. Just don't push it till your oil temp comes up...

I don't have it, my car sounds fine. It was 8F this morning, nothing (98.5 1.8T 30,000 miles)

Default Assuming the 1.8 has lifters, thats what it is...

...no cause for concern - they will make noise until oil gets up there. When its cold, it is usually more pronounced and takes longer to get them lubricated.
