Default Clogged Sunroof Drain BT: I was trying to unclog my sunroof drains today (long)....

I picked up a 5' length of plastic-coated 5/16" Diameter braided cable from Home Depot today. This cable worked really well...went down the drain tube very smoothly.

Anyway.....I noticed nothing came out of the drain tube when the cable poked out the bottom by the door hinges. No debris or residual water (it poured rain last night and my carpet was soaked.....again).

What I did notice was the rubber drain tube was just barely poking out of the the rubber grommet in the body and was thinking....maybe the water has been getting in my car this way. As the water gets to the bottom of the tube, it may have been dripping in "behind" the grommet because the tube was "flush" with the grommet.

I grabbed a pair of neeedle nose pliers, latched on to the end of the drain tube and gave a little pull. I was able to get the drain tube to come out of the grommet about 3/4".

I think this may solve my leak problem.

Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this particular situation?

Default look at the hood release grommet.....

it's in the engine compartment just outboard of the ecu box. this is a common source of water in this area.

Thanks for suggestion. I'll look at it tomorrow. Anything to lookout for with that grommet?

Default it's on a flat horizontal surface....

as long as it's in right it works fine. lots of people route wires through it without sealing it, which seems to be the main problem.

Check to make sure that the drains under the battery are clear.

Default Also look to see that your drain isn't clogged next to the battery

After a rain I found mine to be flooded. Looks like leaves and such can clog it and my be causing the internal flood.

I cleaned it out and have no more flooding of the battery compartment.
