Default Also tie rod ends

you can inspect the joint by looking directly above the tire. If the rubber boot is torn or missing, you should replace the tie rod end (probably do both at the same time). Part are about $80 each and your car will need alignment afterwards.

There is a heavy duty replacement available that is supposed to last much longer.

wheel bearing can also cause some clunking. Improper installation or a worn bearing ball...

Just experienced this on my 2009 A8. Vibrations when wheel is cranked and then slowly progressed to vibrations off the line. Transfer case fluid needed to be replaced, looked absolutely disgusting. Flushed three times for effect. Also replaced diff fluid for good measure etc. Sorry to revive an old thread but made an account just on the odds that someone might come across this looking for a solution.
