Clutch

I've got an 1998 A4 2.8Q with manual transmission. I've had periodic trouble with my clutch pedal seemingly becoming disconnected from the actual clutch mechanism. I push the pedal all the way in and I still can't get the car in or out of gear. I then have to manually pull the clutch pedal back by hooking my toe under the pedal to pull it back and try again. I think it may by the hydraulic mechanism. I don't think my clutch itself is bad because most of the time it works fine. It comes and goes. Seems to happen more often in hot weather (this may be a coincidence). Has anyone else experienced this?

Sounds like a leak in the hydraulic line or a bad clutch master cylinder.
I had the same problem and it was the line. It's the lesser of the two evils but it wasn't easy to swap out the line. It runs from the top of the transmission to the hydraulic fluid reservoir.
