Default Clutch replacement

What are some signs that it's time to replace the clutch? I have a 98 A4 1.8 with 117k on it and shifts are starting to feel more notchy, if that makes any sense. Is it time to replace it?
Thanks

Default When you say notchy, do you mean the shift lever?

I wouldn't expect that if your clutch was going. I just drove mine until it wouldn't hold the power anymore. Basically, when I was driving down the highway and floored it, but revs would shoot up really fast, but the car didn't accellerate. If shifts are notchy, you might consider changing your tranny fluid. That helped me.

Yes, I meant the shift lever. I just changed the tranny fluid about 2k miles ago. It could just be the cold weather affecting it, not sure.
