Default Clutch Replacement at 88K miles?

Alright so brought my car in for a 90k Service a little early because I needed an oil change so I figured I would have them change all the filters and new spark plugs.

AutosportWerks suggested all new control arms and tie rod ends which I am fine with and is in the mail and should be fixed soon.

My clutch grabs really high, but it doesn't slip. Its about in the last inch of movement before it grabs. I bought the car with 40k miles on it so I dont know how it was driven for those miles but I am pretty easy on it. But the last thing I want is my clutch to go out at a bad time.

They said it would be about $1500 for a stage one clutch fully installed. Since I dont race the car I dont see too big of a need to go more than one step higher then OEM.

So what are your thoughts on replacement at 88K? Does that sound early? Should I go with the $1500 rather than the $1200 or so price for the stock clutch? Searching around looks like about 100k is typical.

Default If it doesn't slip, you must skip. Grabbing high is how the clutch works on these cars

was it grabbing that high when you first got the car? Clutches can go as early as 100 miles or as long as 400k (yes, I know somebody who has pulled this off). Depends on the driver and the type of driving.

If it doesn't slip, it's fine. They all engage high.

Default It was always fairly high - 2000 A4 1.8T

It was always higher than other cars I have driven before. It just feels its a little higher then it was before.

I am a pretty light driver and dont typically drop my clutch at high RPM's. But I do drive it like its an Audi so fast corners and high speeds but pretty soft on the clutch

Default once the clutch is engaged (pedal up) hammer all you want. Just be careful with taking off...

and gear changes. It'll last. Mine was replaced at like 12k under warranty and I've got 175k miles on my car now.

Default if you don't like the high engagment...

you can make a clutch stop. basically you just put something behind the clutch pedal so it doesn't travel so far (shorter throw). I did it and couldn't be happier.

search for clutch stop

Default Um, that does nothing to change the high engagement, just compensates for your inability...

to adjust your leg to teh car.
