Default Coil pack ?

Just diagnosed my misfire problem. Seems to be a bad coil pack. But i have a question . As i was hooked up to the vag and took my car for a drive. I noticed .That between 3000 rpm and higher the car would only misfire under hard acceleration. What would cause the pack to misfire only under acceleration or below 3000 rpm?

Default IIRC At just off idle our cars supply less voltage to the spark plug than they do at higher RPMs.

At WOT the spark necessary to jump the gap increases severely. So at low RPM that weak coil pack supplies insufficient spark for a good burn and then again when the cylinder pressures rise sufficiently it again becomes too weak would be my guess.

Default Check your spark plug too. If the gap is too wide on that one the spark will blow out

and cause a misfire.

Default Spark plug or spark plug connector (under the coil pack). Try swapping connectors and see if the

missing cylinder(s) moves around. You are very observant - hard acceleration means higher boost and a denser air/fuel charge - means more energy is required to ignite it all. Too wide of a gap will result in a weak spark unless you have a very high energy spark system. Too much resistance on the spark plug connector (2k ohm spec) means no energy delivered to the plug. Coil packs are coils - like shielded wires wrapping a ferite housing. They are not the weakest link. Otherwise, people will not sell transformers
BTW, if coil packs break, it's usually a crack in the housing causing the spark to go elsewhere. That's a problem on multi coil packs of VR6's, not the individual style of modern cars.

Default Had this EXACT problem a month ago.

Turns out it was my plugs! For some reason, they needed to be re-gapped (smaller). Try that first, THEN start switching coilpacks around. Good luck
