Cold Air Intake Problems
#11
I know exactly what you were talking about and it is still complete BS. Who the hell would even think that air flowing thru a maf would damage it when thats what it is made for.
I am 43 years old not 14 years old and have been been a Audi World member since 1999. lol
I have been running K&N oiled filters since I got one for my 2G Elipse back in 1995, then my A4 and both my Titans. All of them have a MAF sensor.
The only time an oiled filter is going to cause a maf to die is when the USER ends up soaking the filter with oil after they clean it. Cant exactly blame that on the filter.

I'm glad to hear your 43.

Wow you cant even remember what you said yesterday. Let me remind you.
I'm not referring to the airflow
Something on the filter is causing a drop in air flow at the center of the maf.
That part was directed at what might be causing the OP's car to run bad with the filter on but not when he pulls the filter off. It had nothing to do with why maf's die in general.
MAF sensors wear over time. They just happen to go bad sooner when being pushed to their limits. I have even seen MAF's go bad because of a short in the wire, like turning a bulb on/off really quick for a long period of time.
