Cold start problem?
The posts I found on here were either people with a 1.8T, or having huge issues with their cars idling weird, etc.
My concern is small, but I've noticed this morning and earlier in the week when the temp is around 25F, my car takes about 1/2 seconds longer to fire. Not very noticeable, maybe I'm paranoid--but it does seem like it hesitates just a moment longer than usual. Then I can smell gasoline for a few seconds, so it obviously got too much fuel before it fired.
But as soon as it fires it's fine--idles at about 1100 for a few seconds, then drops to the usual 650-700rpm range.
Is this normal? Anyone else have this problem?

happens to me too...
but i dont smell gasoline. One time last week it happened and when it fired up the car stalled. i Saw the CEL light on when it stalled. Then i turned it off and tried again, it started fine. CEL light disappeared.

I believe there is a check valve in the fuel pump that prevents fuel from backflowing into the tank
when you shut the car off. My guess is as cars progressively age, that valve leaks a little, and it takes a little bit longer for the car to start. Try putting the key in the ON position for 5 seconds (but don't crank). This might allow the fuel pump to prime the line and reduce the delay a bit.
I wouldn't worry about it at this stage though. If it causes a several second delay in starting, then I'd considering tracing the cause and possibly changing the pump (and the fuel filter while you're at it).
Of course I could be completely wrong as well....

your lucky...mine takes at least 15 sec to cold start...I got some tuning to do once its
back together.
My check valve like the one RKA was talking about also went bad, my car wont hold up its fuel pressure for more than a couple hrs of being off

Mine won't start on first try 80% of the time, second try - always fires up - cold or after sitting
for a few hours.
After I've turned it over once - Off/on, off/on - turns over fine each time.
I'm too lazy to troubleshoot it.
