Default I have both the Harbor Freight jack and a cheapie $30 from Walmart jack...

do it once, do it right.

Never trusted the Walmart special, it worked, but just didn't inspire confidence. I bent the jack arm jacking with it, it was hard to get the release smooth.

The aluminum Harbor Freight is nice, works well, gives lots of leverage, jacks awfully high, and will hopefully last years, so its worth it as an investment, since it should last a long time, and is rebuildable if it comes to that.

When it comes to tools, everytime i have tried to save $$ i ended up spending more...so from now im just going to get the good stuff from the get-go.

Cheers,
Sameer

Default Yup my experience too - every time I've tried to be thrifty when buying tools

I've ended up being unhappy with them and having to buy new ones. Now I buy decent stuff as soon as I need it. I also keep watch the sales at Sears to pick up stuff at 50% off just in case I'll need it some day.

Default agreed :)

btw how loud is your compressor? When i eventually own a place i so badly want a compressor and a welder.

I do need to pick up a light cheap set of tools to leave in the Miata trunk though.

Cheers,
Sameer

Default hehe...mind you the Walmart made me feel this way jacking a 2400lb car...

The A4 being much heavier, would make it all the scarier.

Default Re: Have you ever tried to pick up a regular shop jack?

Yes, then I proceeded to have titanium pins inserted into my back
