Default those springs look stubby and short that you might be able to get away with using the weight of the

car and a jack underneath the lower A arm.

Basically, car on jackstands, keep a jack under the control arm to compress the spring. Then remove the top bolt, then slowly bring the jack down. Observe if the spring produces any slack before you take the jack away.

Or you can use beefy zip ties (or wire) and a jack. Beefy zipties are about 1/4 inch thick. I've used 6 on a 500lb/in spring safely.

Or get another spring compressor like what I have (I also have what you pictured). My other spring compressor has a bunch of U bolts that hook up both ends of the spring compressor together. Super strong, safe, fast and works with tight wound springs.

unscrew the compressors all the way and clamp from top and bottom

Default it looks like if you unthreaded each finger from the threaded rod...

then you could slip the fingers in individually and then rethread the rod through them.

Default coils would probably be still too thick to work with compressors and the safety pins won't push in

I have the same set.

Default

When you say "then remove the top bolt" which one are you talking about?

Default That might work - the only thing I'm worried about is getting the fingers out

after the spring is compressed.

Default the one that holds the shock body to the upper housing. I forgot, keep every other bolt intact...

including the 4 bolts to the upper housing. I've removed some B5 A4 aftermarket springs this way.

Default I had same problem, paid $40 to have Meineke do it

I have same spring compressors which worked on a 98.5 2.8 bilstein/vogtland set up and then didn't work on my 2001 1.8 bilstein/vogtland. I used a real old style set of compressors that could only be turned by hand and it was such a pita that i found a meineke that charged me $40 and it was done in 5 min. It did take some searching though because many places equipment wouldn't work with the small diameter springs.
