computer chip question

Are there any chips which are not soldered in place and can be swapped with the stock chip when the car has to be serviced? What are the prices on these chips and reactions/responses about the chips.

Including Wett and GIAC. Both have good reps here, there are probably still more Wett chip owners on this board than any other chip (though APR is catching up); and GIAC is highly regarded and will do custom programming based on your needs. APR is also offering (or about to) a chip which can be switched between modes via a flip switch. Most chips are soldered which avoids the issue of damaging the chip when switching or getting a bad connection. Unless you have a specific need for a socketed chip, a seperate ecu is probably a better choice (though more expensive).<p>Regards,
