Im not sure how many of you are aware of this, but there appears to be a recall on tires from Continental (maker of the non-sport tire on A4's). I am not sure if the model being recalled is on the A4 or not.
FRANKFURT (Reuters) - German tire maker Continental AG said on
Tuesday its U.S. unit General Tire would recall 160,000 tires following
problems with some tires used on Lincoln Navigator vehicles made by Ford.
A Continental spokesman revised earlier comments by the company that it
would not recall any tires, but said the recall was a ``voluntary action.''
The company will issue a statement together with the U.S. National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration later on Tuesday, the spokesman said.
The problem with Continental tires emerged about five weeks after Japan's
Bridgestone Corp announced the recall of about 6.5 million 15 inch tires
made by its U.S. Firestone unit following reports which are believed linked to
the deaths of 130 people in the U.S. and Venezuela.

I was watching the news last week and they were saying we are seeing more tire issues because the speed limit was increased.
I was thinking to myself, Oh great because some scientist says SUV tires are falling apart because the speed limit was increased, some politician with start a bill to reinistate the national speed limit because SUV tires are falling apart.
Did they ever stop and think that most SUV drivers drive like total *******s, and think they are in an Indy car or something. It doesn't suprise me that these tires are tearing apart because they are not designed to handle the heat that is generated when you drive your hulking vehicle down the road at 95 mph doing lane changes every 15 seconds.
You can probably tell that I'm not a big SUV fan, and I will be less of a fan if speed limits are decreased because of these hulking vehicles and idiot drivers. I think they should limit the speed of these vehicles of the tires can't handle the heat. They are designed for offroad (soccer mom driving through grass) not for high speed driving. I once saw a Pathfinder roll over after the driver attempted a triple lane change at high speed (95+mph). What an idiot!!
Not all of us on the road have LT offroad type tires! Some people are still out on the road in cars with ZR/VR rated tires. You have to look hard, were hiding behind all the truck wanabees out on the road trying not to get run over.
Brad Bilut, A4 98.5 2.8Q Xenon Tip PES SC

If the world were perfect, the speed you were allowed to drive on the highway would depend on your vehicle (and, of course traffic/weather conditions). You driving a tractor trailer? 55 mph in the right lane is your limit. Ferrari? You can do 120+. If you mod your car for performance, then your limit increases as well. Get pulled over for speeding, and show the oficer the mod, proving the car has the anility, and you're free to go! Ah, wouldn't this be nice? Too bad it'll never happen.

That are causing the lard asses that drive these rigs to exceed the maximum tonnage rating allowed for the tires!

and the SUV drivers could drive alongside the highway in the grass or dirt. I bet that would make them feel manly!!
Brad Bilut, A4 98.5 2.8Q Xenon Tip PES SC

With problem after problem being announced and the media having a field day, people are really starting to panic. You'd think 50,000 people had died from blown tires in the last week or something.
I bet this could lead to the reduction of speed limits like Brad says. What it really should lead to is the reduction of people driving enormously heavy vehicles on mediocre-quality tires at too low a pressure and too high a speed ... and then whining and pointing fingers about the consequences.
It certainly leads to me having to answer the question, "Omigawd, you own Bridgestones? You're gonna die man ... when you gonna get them changed?" almost every day. I'm getting pretty tired of that.
On the other hand, I got passed by a Ford Explorer weaving at about 95 MPH the other day and I was really hoping to see one of his tires pop. :-) Heck, maybe if all the SUVs in the world blew their tires at the same time, we'd all be better off ... ;-)
