Default Control Arm Bushings

Hello. I was told by a mechanic that I needed new upper (four) control arm bushings, as well as new CV transaxle and tie rod ends. Has anyone here replaced control arm bushings? I was told that they would have to be pressed out with a hydraulic press and the new ones pressed in. Is this your experience?
Thanks

my car failed inspection last year due to the same thing. (99 a4 2.8 quattro) so i orderd all new control arms, upper and lower, from autopartswarehouse.com they were like $250 i think? i only needed one new control arm but one costed $80 so i figured with 130,000 miles id better replace all of them(it was more cost effective also). and i havnt had any trouble out of them.

The higher quality and heavier duty control arm kits from Febi and Meyle are extremely popular as this failure is extremely common. We have very high quality comprehensive kits available for all B5 A4's here - click click. I would highly recommend replacing all control arms at one time as once one bushing fails, it throws the entire system out of its proper geometry and increases load and wear on the other bushings. Due to the high failure rate of OEM bushings it is recommended that you replace the control arm assembly, not the bushings.
