Coolant mixing causing engine light to come on?

I had my coolant light blink on for me on the way to work yesterday, checked the coolant and saw that it was dangerously low (well below the Min line). This is the first time I’ve encountered this problem since only owned my 2009 A4 2.0 for a year. I read up on the manual and how G12+ coolant was required, and headed over to my local O’Reilly to check.
the closest brand they could suggest to me was the Yellow Prestone Antifreeze and that it could be mixed. I filled the coolant reservoir up to the min line to get me through. About after driving 20 miles the check engine light came on, and after reading through the forums regarding the mixing of coolant and proper brands, I’m unsure if I should just contact my mechanic to flush the whole system. Any feedback helps.

Mike, you may be in for a big suprise when you start blending coolants. It's not pretty.
Also, you need to determine what's causing your loss of coolant.

I found the loss quite strange too, I’ve already contacted my mechanic about the situation to get his input. Would driving for a couple days until I could get it flushed do considerable damage?

I don't know how long it takes for the coolant to start coagulating. It's a real mess - - hard to clean up once it starts.
