Just got done STFA and the one thing that I noticed is that not many people have faith in the factory G-12 coolant. It seems that some people still feel that the proper 50/50 mixture of G-12 and distilled water is fine, others seem to disagree and opt to use Mercedes/Xerex G-05 coolant or VW G-12 Plus. So the question is, which one to use? Or is it something based completely on preference?
Also, being that I have never run into the issue of having to change the coolant, is it something that I can simply top off? or is it something that I should flush, reflush, and fill?
If it comes down to the flush, I am assuming the best means of doing so would to be detatch a hose at the bottom of the radiator? Let the system drain. Refill the system with a 50/50 mix of water and Walmart coolant, start the car and refill as necessary. When complete reflush, and then fill with the desired coolant?
Lastly, the timing belt is going to be changed in approx 8k miles or by August. That being said is it worth it to use a good coolant being that it will all be flushed anyways?
Any input would be greatly appreciated. And if i missed anything please point it out. I am open to advice.
