Default Coolant Service, when to perform

I have a little over 40K miles and 4 years on my '99 1.8T. I believe I have the original coolant... but I have to check back on my Audi scheduled maintenance. At what interval should the coolant/cooling system be flushed ? It there a particular type of coolant that should be used ?

Default I have question about adding something to coolant

I se on the label it says not to mix any other coolant with the OEM coolant.

My question is , there is a fluid that is sold to pour into the coolant tank that hardens and plugs any holes. I have not seen it yet so i am not sure what it is called , is this safe to add to the oem g12 coolant. I have a bad radiator and for now i need to stop the coolant leak somehow.

Also anyone know how hard/easy it is to remove and replace the radiator and radiator hoses on a 98 a4 1.8 ?

thank you

Default NO!!! absolutely NOT.....(more)

Do not use that stuff that "say" plugs up leaks in a cooling system. They cause more damage on the long run. They clog radiators, heater cores, and the water jackets in the cylinder heads. Also they will distroy your water pump shaft...
Do not use....Period
ITs like using snake oils....pro-long Slick50, motor up.....THEY DO NOT WORK......
The only time u use that stuff is when u need to sell the car and do not wanna fix...then u use tha stuff and sell the car the next day.....

Default Wow thanks.....

im glad i asked......i wont use that crap then....i was hestinat but now im convinced not to use it.

so what do you think i should do.....kepp adding warm water? it leaks coolant...not real badly but bad enough that the coolant level is a good 2 inches below the min arrow in the coolant tank.....the shop said it is due to a bad radiator....i can actually see a pot on the radiator that gets soaked with the coolant.....what should i do....how hard is it to change the radiator and hoses myself......i dont want to cause any damage in the meantime.....also is there a low coolant sendor because mine has not went off.

thank you
