Coolant System residue...what is it??? :(

My check engine light (CEL) went on a month ago. Car has been running great. At that time AUDI diagnosed it with a broken Throttle Postioner Sensor as well as Coolant temp sensor. They fixed them both for about $700. Ripoff, I know, but thats a different story (another time). CEL went back on on my ride home from AUDI after it was fixed. They told me it was a different problem and that it was my T-stat, it needs ti be replaced $800. Ripoff, still not the point.
I took it to a reccommended (non-AUDI dealer)repair place in my area, the VAG-COM threw coolant temp sensor (CTS), they tested both the T-stat and the CTS and they were both OK. However, the guy noticed that I had this residue on the underside of the coolant system cap as well as floating throughout reservoir and possibly the entire system.
Its yellow in color. Sort of a chalky pasty texture and it smells like sulphur.
WHAT IS IT?
COULD THIS BE TRIGGERING THE VAG TO THROW THE CTS CODE?
CAN ANYONE PUT THIS STORY TOGETHER AND FUGURE OUT WHATS GOING ON?
PLEASE HELP.
Thanks
-Jordan

2. If you really want to be stolen from, just send me 1/2 of whatever they estimate, and I'll actually fix the problem. Lol.
There should be no solids of any kind in the system. The usual culprit is phosphates from hard tap water or green coolant that some retard topped off the sytem with. Actually a retard would have asked what the warning stamps all over the system meant.
You need to go to the independant and get a full system flush. Then get a pressure test to see if there is a major gasket failure somewhere. Finally have them fill it with the proper vw/audi G 60(?) fluid, AND never go back to the dealer again.

I will bring it to a different AUDI dealer/service place.
Is it OK to drive the car?
Long distances?
I appreciate your help!
Thanks

Patronizing only because this comes up frequently.
Sure, you can drive it. Go on holiday, whatever. I wouldn't drive cross-country. But the longer you run it that way the likelier it will be that more things get filled with the goop. It is an instantaneous reaction, so the damage is fundamentally done.
A flush and test takes less than an hour. Anyone really can do it. Just get it done, imho.

part. Get some new coolant in there ASAP. Also, might be a good idea to have them check for head gasket leaks.
