Default Coolant temp engine code

I got a code that keeps coming up saying I have a malfunction in the coolant temp circuit. Is this most likely the temp sensor? If so where is this sensor located?

Thanks

It's likely the coolant temp sensor went bad. What engine do you have? and your email so i could email you the location pics.

Multifuction coolant temp sensor(F76). It's on the water pipe under the idle control valve. You may have to remove intake manifold to gain access to it.

Note: The coolant temp sensor(G62) which turns on the AUX fan is located in the lower left of the RAD. This picture shows the previous version of the 12v V6 engine. I just installed new head gasket and didn't see the coolant temp sensor there as shown in this picture.

I am looking at the pipe behind the engine and i dont see that sensor there either. The pictures show it just where the pipe goes to the head next to the bleeder. Are there any other possible locations?

There are 2 coolant temp sensors

1. Multifuction coolant temp sensor(F76). It's on the water pipe under the idle control valve. This is the problem one as it communicates with the ECU. Just took a look and its not visible but, its located under Idle control valve and Intake manifold.

2. Coolant temp sensor(Thermoswitch)- Located in the lower left of the rad. Turns on the AUX fan if Temp goes above 91C etc... The picture below has the wrong location for this sensor.

Oh ok that makes sense. I saw that sensor buried back there but was confused by the diagram. Thanks

AfteR changing the sensor the light is still on and my guage isnt working. Could anything else cause this? Maybe the other sensor in the radiator? Thanks

Default Did you clear the code?

It needs a few warm up cycles to clear on it's own.

There are two sensors in one assembly there are (2) pins for each circuit.

Since your gauge isn't working . You have a bad connection or a bad sensor.

Vag.com can read ECU temp and gauge temp.

The other device in the radiator is a thermostatic switch for the fans.

I have cleared the code since I changed the sensor and it came back on. I hope that maybe the connector is bad, ill mess with the connection a little bit and try to get it working. Its not overheating, and the heat is working fine so at least its still drivable. Thanks for the help.
