Default Coolant Temp gauge not working, now working???

My coolant gauge has not worked for 2.5 years now. I had the shop check it out and they said it needs a new temp sending unit, but everything else is ok. Running good temps and all. Well, I just have ignored it and all of a sudden it started working today!!!???? Can anyone explain this to me??

I did mess with the ABS fuse since my ABS/Brake lights have been on for a few months now.

Possible faulty wiring going to the gauge? A bad CTS unit will cause all sorts of misfire issues as well as chaotic gauge readings.

Do you mean literal misfiring? of the ignition system? Cause I noticed that after drving for 30mins or so, and come to a stop, it runs a litte rough...

If you are driving a 98, you may want to replace your sensor with one of these new switches. Click here for a new Coolant Temp Sensor. Careful if you order from a different place, these are vin specific on AEB's. I've linked you directly to the switch you need for your 98.

I have a front wheel drive, not Quattro... will that make a difference?

Oh I see what you mean, yes just select your car from the drop down menu up top! Sorry for the delay, I wasn't in over the holiday weekend.
