could someone explain me the difference between a BOV and a normal wastegate??

someone is asking me and i don't wanna give them a wrong answer.. i am thinking they are pretty much the same?? thanks.

BOV does not = wastegate.

a BOV is more analogous to a recirc valve

BOV or BPV releases exes preassure from the intake side. Wastegate does the same thing on the exhaus

side...kind of.

BOV/BPV relieves pressure on the compressor side of the turbo...

when the manifold is in vaccum ie between shifts, decelaration, etc. This keeps the compressor wheel (cold side) from stalling which at best makes boost lag and at worst damages the turbo. A Wastegate vents exhaust gas from the turbine (hot) side which in turn controls how much boost the turbo is making and keeps the turbo turbine side from overspinning causing possible damage!!
