Cracked oil pan, about 3/4 inch, ok to weld? Or do I need to simply replace?

Default replace...

you should drop it, check the oil pump, replace it just in case, and then put in a new one...

Are you equipped to weld aluminum? I'd just replace it.

Default I have a friend who has the tools to weld steel and so can get the necessary stuff to do aluminum...

so yes, I could have it welded, but is that a smart idea with these pans? Or would it just be better to eat the expense and get a new one?

Welding steel and welding aluminum are totally different. Just get a new one.
