Default Never ever use a rubbing compound on a dark color car.

Even washing a dark car the wrong way will give you spider web scratchs. Always have a flow of water over the surface while you wash it.

Default what product did you use

Knowing what caused the scratches will help diagnose properly.

Default I used 3M rubbing compound on my black Maxima... (more)

a while back cuz of swirl marks. Didn't use anything else except the rubbing compound on a clean car. Took swirl marks right out. Maybe the rag you used to put it on with was dirty (which was what caused swirls on my car). I don't see why it wouldn't get out the swirl marks... Good luck!

Default turtle wax stuff if garbage.. now then..

You need to determine the depth of the scratches you have. Can you feel them with your finger nail? If you can, the clear coat is gone and DO NOT try to fix this yourself. Take it to a professional detailer.

If you can't feel it with the finger nail I'd try a few things

1) Pick up bottle of Meguiars Scratch-X and try these. DO NOT use circular motions. Back and forth only. Try this on a small section of the car twice. If this does not yield results then

2) Pick up 3M Swirl Mark Remover and try this on a small portion. Again NO circular motions and try this twice.

If neither help, go to a pro, it will be worth the cash. They will fix it

If #1 or #2 yields results, than you want to have some 3M Imperial Hand Glaze for dark cars to go over with next, than wax it.

You can get all of these products from Pep Boys.

Default Answer here....

Rubbing compiund is real aggressive... you'll need to work your way through the finer grits...

Go over the car with 3M Imperial Hand glaze, that should take out the swirl marks...if not, go over it a second time.

Then use a good polish like the P21s Finish Restorer, or Groits Hand Polish and then wax...

And next time don't listen to someone who doesn't know what they are doing....

Default chill man i was just saying..

if a guy is obviously upset and the circumstance doesn't call for joking around, wouldn't it be better if you withheld a comment like that until an appropriate time? just a thought, do whatever you want.

Try "Finesse-It II" by 3M; should work miracles. Look in large auto parts stores

Best place to find that is at a Automotive paint store.
