Crap, I think my steering rack is shot

I brought my car in to have my mechanic take a look at my control arms and mentioned that I've had to fill my power steering every 2-3 weeks. I was hoping that it was just a hose or something simple, but the leak was coming right out of the steering rack. ESC sells them for $629 and that's with a $100 core charge. I doubt if I can get a cheaper one than that. Anyone have any experience with replacing the steering rack?

We've already replaced a steering rack in our 00 30v at 40k(multiple racks in our 96(sold)), now at 63k. I would recommend going with a factory Audi rebiult rack. They use new gears. The problem with A4's(and other Audi's), is that they tend to eat up the gear as well. It is not just bad seals. Alot of the rebiult racks just repaint the damn thing and put new seals in it(bad). After learning a hard and $ lesson, I flush the P/S fuild at regular intervals.

I would probably check:
1)local Audi dealers(check and see what they want)
2)www.suncoastmotorsports.com :contact; Ric Knab
3)www.clairparts.com
