cruise control intermittant...help?

cruise control intermittant...help?
my first thought is that the switch contacts are not making a correct contact in the cruise control stick. Because it's intermittant, I assume it isn't a software problem. Does anyone else have this problem? Remedies? How do you take apart the stick to get to the switch contacts? TIA!
