Cruise Control Problem

So.....I have tried everything in the book to try to get my cruise control working. I have switched out the cruise control module, the multi-function switch, checked the vacuum pump, and clamped the hoses to see if there were any leaks in the lines. Nothing....The cruise control still doesn't work.
When I'm driving down the road and I set the cruise, I hear a clicking in the cruise control module but it doens't work, also when I push the brake, or put in the clutch I hear a click like it is disengaging, but it was never really on in the first place. It seems there is something wrong between the module and the vacuum. I drive from ohio to new york about 6-7 times a year and seems like I can't live without it. Is there anything that anyone knows that I haven't checked? thank you soo much for helping me.

lol j/k, did you check the actuator itself? maybe a problem with that diaphram? other than that, if u hear everyhtig clicking n sounds like its doing what its supposed to, it has to be in the lines somewhere, i would think.

My vacuum pump worked, but not enough to pull the vacuum servo on the throttle body. When my dealer actually tested the thing, it pulled a weak 3 psi and it is spec'd at 5 psi. They changed everything (under warranty), new control module, control stalk, some switches, and nothing changed until they put in a new vacuum pump. I heard the same electronic engagement / disengagement you are hearing. New pump = perfect functioning cruise control for me.
Good luck...

It usually takes about 3 or 4 attempts pushing the button to get it to engage. In fact, I'm in the habit of pushing three times in a row anytime I want to engage it.
The accelerate function doesn't work on mine. If I try to use the switch on the stalk to go faster, it disengages the cruise control.
Oh well. It's not enough of a bother for me to worry about it.

I second the switch, maybe the pump. I think my switch is bad because the pump is pulls pretty good when I try to stall the car. Same circuit here.

I have a 2000 S4 and was bedeviled by cruise control problems last year (and still today) on a 4400+ mile cross-country road trip.
Truth be told, I had never used my cruise control in the four years I'd owned the car before last March. However, what I found was that the cruise control would work ONCE and ONLY ONCE after turning the car on after a food or fuel stop and then never again thereafter until I turned the car off again for a period of time.
Between past radio problems, a flaky driver's side door sensor problem, cruise control problems, a failing ABS controller unit, and a nearly 100% non-functioning center LCD display my opinion of Audi's electronic and electro-mechanical quality control and supply chain management is at a seriously low ebb.
