So I did not get any pics of the process........ mostly because it was such a pain in the royal large J-Lo *** that I simply forgot.
I tore apart a hitch from a Ford TaurAss and made my own fully custom receiver hitch.
DO NOT attempt this at home... and even more so if you have a full size spare as there is NO way it will ever fit into the spare well any more.
My dinky-dinkity spare just fits, and even that is on an angle a little. There is room enough however to still throw the slide out hitch part/ball into the well with the spare.
The receiver slide in part actually is *inside* the spare tire area. I had to cut a hole, slide it in and then bend/cut/weld in supports that go across and up the sides of the spare area. There is also a brace on the aft most end up above the hitch like the commercially available ones have. This hitch *is* permanent, welded and bolted.
Hard to fully explain, but it's pretty rugged - as rugged as any I've seen on these cars. There is not *that much* too attach to really, but honestly nobody in their right mind is going to tow much with an A4. I also am used to working on very very large heavy trucks when it comes to towing gear...
Yes, car's @ss is dirty....
Hitch IN:

Hitch OUT:

Another OUT shot. I need a cap of some sort.... maybe a "Calvin" pissing on a Chevy logo or something?? ;-P Hope the FBI doesn't see this shot.... they can now track me down by my plate.........

I kid I kid....
I have a really small utility trailer (5X9) that we use around the house for hauling brush to the dump or buying loam/dirt or a bush or small tree from the landscaping nursery a few miles away now and then etc.
Total weight including the trailer is probably like 7-800 pounds max.
Just means we don't have to use the truck that gets terrible MPG, and at 18,000 GVW is slight overkill for a 6 foot tall apple tree and a couple bushes or something. ;-)
