Cuts like a knife. . .
Caught this little bit in C&D, and thought it was of note for all VW/Audi owners: "Nathan Rau, a 31-year old lawyer from Minneapolis, MN, contacted the NY Times to let them know that the key to his Audi was confiscated by airport security at Dallas/Fort Worth Inter. Airport. While Rau was passing through a security checkpoint, guards noticed the switchblade-like key in the X-ray machine. Rau was told he wouldn't be allowed to fly with the key because 'Well, sir, that's a switchblade style, and that's a prohibilited item. We're going to have to confiscate that.' Fortunately, Rau keeps a key hidden on this car and was able to drive home from the airport. Unfortunately, replacing the key can cost about $300."
You know, after reading that, I'm glad I have a cheapo key for my car, so when I travel next time, I'm taking that instead. Hope the Japs here don't take my key from me.

In Melbourne, Florida airport while flying Delta...
i had a security guard at the x-ray checkpoint ask me to operate my key for him because it looked like a switchblade to him and he showed his co-worker because they'd never seen anything like it. After showing him how it opened and he could tell it was a car key he let me go with it, after i dropped it in the x-ray and walked through

Yeah, that's pretty ridiculous...
I've flown numerous times with my switchblade key after 9/11 without any issues, but haven't gone to Texas with it...
Here's that article from NYT if anyone's interested. The guy (Rau) posted his story on various newsgroups as well...

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/21/business/21road.html?</a
