Default CV Boot Temp Fix

I have a pinhole in my front CV boot, but I'm going away in a month for at least 6 months so I don't have the time to deal with replacing it or the money to pay someone... I was thinking of just getting a grease gun and hopefully I can find the leak and just inject some grease back in the boot as a temporary fix... Would anyone think this is a bad idea?

Default If its not making noise ,I'd rock that for a temp repair . I've seen worse.

Get a grease gun needle at the parts store ,some RTV and a CV compatible grease. Clean it well with brake clean after you lube it and seal the pinhole with a glob of RTV. The worse that will happen is you will be forced to fix it correctly sooner and have to spend the time and money. Good luck.

Default Bad idea.

Grease goes in the joint, not the boot. Overgreasing the joint and filling the boot with grease accelerates the demise of the boot.

It shoudl be fine for a while. But it won't likely last 6 months unless you don't drive it much.

Motorcycle chain lube, shot thru nozzle, then reseal the boot.

Default speaking of temporary repairs...the three favorites I've seen at work

A connecting rod bearing shimmed with pop can made it from FL back to OH in a Mustang V6.
Power steering pipe hole sealed with split hose ,RTV and hoseclamp while part was on backorder, last 3 weeks ,part came in. The most amazing ,dripping failing water pump on smallblock Chevy makes it back home by putting zerk fitting in the weep hole and pumping a small amount of grease in.

This summer I saw a BMW at Mid-Oh run two races with ty-raps for CV boot clamps while someone was parts running to Columbus for the genuine ones.
I've never seen the battery terminal protector used for TRE boots but it sealed plug wires that were bad on my college roomates Toyota Hi-Lux . We were on a surf trip and it wasn't starting ,we could see the sparking on the wires in early morning . We sprayed the salt off the wires from the seaside air and dried the wires off with air hose . Sprayed the wires ,cap and rotor down with the terminal sealer and let it dry ,started truck and drove home.
