are cv hubs interchangeable? I know the axles are not b/c of the Auto and Man lengths

But I might need a new hub on my TIP FWD and I may be able to get a hub locally, cheap. I don't have the cash to spend after ordering two timing belts but changing out and regreasing the cv boot didn't help the clicking for long so I'm assuming that the is going. I don't want to have to change the whole axle if I don't have to, especially since most cars are Quattro and manual that are around here with parts to give. Also, would a passat hub be the same? I didn't find anything in the archives.

like use a manual joint on a tip axle, just swap the joints out since they look like everything looks the same size and all.

I plan on putting the inner and outer joints on the axle on my 99.5 fwd tip. My outer joint is bad, but I'm just replacing both since I have them.
