My 98 1.8t started running rough the other day, and my Vag Com indicated #3 cylinder misfire. I replaced the coil pack for #3 and swapped spark plugs, but it didn't help. Still the rough running, the blinking CEL, and the Vag Com still indicates #3 misfire. Any other ideas to fix this?

AEB coilpacks rarely ever fail. Mine never have after 176k miles.
My guess is the ICM, or output control module located on the top of the airbox is having issues. It sits in plain sight on it.
Check out the tech section for a how-to on metering it out with a 1.5v battery to check it's operation.

The test did show that cylinder #3 in the ICM was bad. I see Autohauzaz has a Meyle/Hueco for $110 vs Bosch for $150. Has anyone had trouble with either?
