That's not it's market niche though. You can't get S4 performance without giving something up.
In this case it's build quality, comfort, and any hint of good styling.

agreed. I think it looks terrible.
If the car doesn't look good, I don't care WHAT it does or has under the hood. Plus, in the commercials the engine doesn't even sound good to me. Sounds cheap.

I've never been impressed with Subies as a daily driver at all.
My dealership gives me various new Subarus as loaners every time I go in for service.
My impression: Cheapo Honda with All Wheel Drive.
I'm sure some of their Rally cars are fun to drive tho.

The growth in popularity of Rally Racing in the US is exactly what they're banking on.
Subaru is marketing it as a Gen-X car. Sports car performance, off-road ability (to a limited degree) and with the growth of Rally popularity here, you can see exactly why they're tying it in to that. I think it's a pretty cool little car, and really shouldn't be compared in any way to the A4, they are entirely different automobiles aimed at different market segments. Besides the all wheel drive and turbo, there is no similarity.
