New/used K03 or new/used K04 kit. Obviously the K04 route will be more $$. A used K03 will be your least expensive option. I'm sure there are peeps here who have upgraded and still have their original around.

Go K04 then. It's much more reasonably priced. Install too (direct bolt-on).

I would like the KO4 but I am worried about the life of it.

Default The life of the turbo or the engine?

With the proper software and responsible driving, you really shouldn't have any longevity issues with the K04. If getting a used turbo, it all depends on how the previous owner treated it (oil type, oil change frequency, warmup/cooldown). The 1.8 engine is fairly bulletproof by all accounts.

Default Both. It is hard to tell prior to buying how the previous owner treated it. I could get it new,

but I would have to put off on my suspension and wheels for a while.

Default Well, this might help...

I met RAD69 a few weeks ago. Smart guy...loves cars...not the sort of dumbass that would abuse his car or shut the car off with a hot turbo. I wouldn't hesitate about buying his kit if I was in your shoes.

$0.02...
