Dash rattle fix?! Try this! (repost)
I've been noticing an intermittent rattle around the instrument gauge cluster lately. To make a long story short I
think I may have found the cause. Try popping the trim piece between the top of the steering column and the
bottom of the instrument cluster off. Pull back on this piece from the top and it will pop right off.
Did the noises go away?
David

At my first service for my 99 Avant at University Audi in Seattle I reported this problem. The Service Tech indeed did the exact same thing you mention. They then put in a felt liner on the inside of that trim piece and the buzz disappeared.

Re: Fuse #9 question....
There is an illustrated FAQ on this forum which I wrote about how to power the mirrors thru the rear defroster grid, using the #9 fuse. Pretty simple. Note, tho, that this mod will work without any side effects ONLY if you have a manual with trip computer. Otherwise, you lose the temperature display and (with auto) the gear position display, which are also powered thru #9.
- Stan
